WHAT IS "WHEELS FOR WORK: BIRTHDAY BLESSING"?

Richard Mack, Sr. (80th), Kevin Tolbert (50th) and Richard Mack Jr. (50th) celebrate their milestone birthdays this September, by raising money to purchase cars for families who need them to get to work.  We invite our generous community to assist in this effort.

All donations go directly to our esteemed, 114 year-old fiduciary, the Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries.  Therefore, donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.   You can donate cash or gently-used cars, for tax benefits.

When you click DONATE below, you are directed to the DRMM website to give.  We want God to use us to bless Detroit families in need with wheels for work.  Will you help our fundraising effort, with money or a gently-used car today?

Then, we celebrate during a Birthday Banquet on September 29th, where we turnover the keys to the recipient families, and hear their stories.  GET YOUR TICKETS TODAY!

"I had to hitch-hike 30 miles to get to my first student teaching job, in torrential rain! And worse, I had to pack a change of clothes to avoid hitch-hiking back.  Let's help others avoid what I went through, by providing a car."

"More than 30 years ago, Rev. Dr. Frederick Sampson blessed me with money for my first car. He refused repayment but ordered me to return the favor by blessing someone else.  Friends, help me fulfill this calling."

"I've been through missing work because I had no car.  Having to cross 8 Mile Rd., with bus transfers, made things worse.  Let's bless families facing this same problem, and watch God further transform this City!"

Since the beginning, DRMM has rebuilt hundreds of thousands of lives destroyed by addiction, homelessness and poverty. It is a firm believer that you have to treat the whole person to make a permanent change, helping people help themselves.

You may recall the heartwarming story of a formerly homeless department store security guard who walked ten miles each day to work. DRMM's generous donation of a Dodge Neon changed his life, and we want to replicate this life-altering act for others. These birthday boys want to replicate this effort for as many Detroit families as possible. Will you help?

The criteria for receiving a vehicle are:

  1. The family must have children. Single parents are fine, even preferred.
  2. The family must have employment, or at least an offer of employment which requires transportation.
  3. The family must show a specific need for transportation: such as driving to work to support the family, driving to care for a loved one, driving to job training programs, etc.
  4. The family must demonstrate some degree of financial responsibility, such as paying bills they can afford consistently or contacting creditors to make payment arrangements. This is to help assure that the family will maintain the insurance, and otherwise take care of the gifted vehicle.

  4. Each recipient family must agree to allow DRMM to track its success, so it can provide assistance when needed along the way.
